Donald Rowlings Obituary

Donald George Rowlings Long-time Piedmont Resident Donald passed away on October 8 after a long illness. He was 80 years old. He was Senior Vice-president of Project Finance and Development for Kaiser Engineers, one of the Henry J. Kaiser Companies, Oakland. He worked for the company from 1972-1987. Following his retirement, he and former Kaiser staff and retirees organized Rowlings Capital Group, Inc. The company planned and found financing for major capital and infrastructure projects, principally for clients in the steel industry. In what little spare time he had, Rowlings became a talented amateur photographer, and especially enjoyed the annual workshops given by the late artist Morley Baer. He also enjoyed learning tai chi as a member of the Golden Gate Park Tai Chi Class. Rowlings was born in Boston, Mass. and is a graduate of Colgate University and Harvard Law School. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean war theater. Previous to moving to California, he was an associate in the law firm, Taft, Stettinius and Hollister, Cincinnati, and then became General Counsel for Chemical and Industrial Corporation, Cincinnati. He is survived by his wife Jocelyn, son Jeffrey, daughters Judith and Leigh and three grandchildren. Private services have been held.
