Doris Wang Obituary

Doris Wang
Feb 1928 - May 2017
San Ramon
Doris Hsueh-Pih Wang passed away May 31, 2017 in San Ramon, California at the age of 89. Her husband, the late David W.T. Wang, passed away earlier this year.
Doris was born in Canton, China in 1928, the fourth child of [General] Chan Hing-wan, the founder of the Chinese Air Force, and his wife Wong Sue-har. She came to the United States to attend college in 1948, and married David in 1951. Because David worked for the US State Department, they lived in New York, Washington, DC, Laos, Hong Kong, Germany, and India. They retired to northern California in 1997.
Her years abroad made Doris an experienced traveler, accustomed to the nomadic existence of a Foreign Service life. She was an excellent and self-taught seamstress and cook, picking up both skills after arriving in the United States, and had a life-long passion for Chinese astrology and feng shui. She was best known, however, for being a gracious hostess and excellent conversationalist. She always genuinely engaged with every individual at every social event she attended and remembered something personal about them in the future.
She is survived by her sisters Dorothy Pei, Donna Yin and Seraphine Wu of New York, NY; three children Brenda, and her husband Larry Clough of Reston, VA; Lesley and her husband Steve Milovich of Walnut Creek, CA; and Phillip Wang and his wife Pam of Danville, CA; his seven grandchildren Diana C. Benton and Simon Clough, Rachel, Erin and Julia Eckstein, Alyssa and Stephanie Wang, and his great-grandson Michael Benton.
Expressions of sympathy may be made through a donation to Hope Hospice 6377 Clark Avenue, Suite 100, Dublin, California 94568-3024. www.hopehospice.com
