Ernest Layrac Obituary

Ernest A. Layrac January 3, 1917~July 3, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek Ernest A. Layrac, born in San Francisco on January 3, 1917, died on July 3, 2010 at his home in Walnut Creek at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of his family. He was predeceased by his father Albert Layrac; his mother Darie Lacombe Layrac; his brother Paul Layrac; the mother of his five children Julie Lynch Layrac; his daughter-in-law Joni Layrac; and his first grandchild Nancy Massetti. He is survived by his loving companion of 30 years, Maria Cavallo and his "fifth" daughter, Sandra Cavallo; his son Paul Layrac and his loving companion Laura Moss; his daughter Joan Massetti and her husband Jim; his daughter Janet Haun and her husband Larry; his daughter Maureen Simpson and her husband Bill; his daughter Monette Meo and her husband Greg; his nine grandchildren Steven Massetti, Brian Massetti and his wife Kristi, Kevin Massetti and his wife Amanda, Christa, Karen and Matthew Haun, Michael and Megan Meo, and Juliana Simpson; his seven great-grandchildren Trevor, Sera, Taryn, James, Christopher, Lexi, and Addison Massetti. Ernie served in the Counter Intelligence Corps in the United States Army. He rose to the rank of staff sergeant. In 1943, he married Julie Lynch and they settled and raised their children in Oakland. After honorable discharge from the Army, Ernie worked for J. Meyberg Company in the accounting department. Years later, Ernie was summoned by his uncle to become the manager of the Hotel Travelers. He managed the hotel and co-owned the Travelers Tavern in downtown Oakland for the next 35 years. He retired in 1983. Ernie enjoyed traveling the world (especially the United States), golfing, painting, and completing three crossword puzzles a day. Ernie's biggest joy in life was his time spent with his family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Ernie's life will be held at St. Perpetua Church, 3454 Hamlin Road, Lafayette on Thursday July 8, 2010 at 4pm. A dinner reception will follow at the St. Perpetua's Children's Garden of Learning. In lieu of flowers, Ernie requested that any donations be made to the St. Perpetua's Children's Garden of Learning, and sent to St. Perpetua's School, 3445 Hamlin Road, Lafayette, CA 94549. Ernie was a wonderful man and a terrific father-in-law to my sister, Joni. She loved him dearly and it's nice to think they might be re-united again. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Layrac family.
