Eugenia Broussard Obituary

EUGENIA ROCHON BROUSSARD (1905-2007) Was born August 31, 1905 to Homer Rochon, Sr. and Marion Boutte Rochon, in New Iberia, Louisiana. Eugenia was the youngest of ten children. As a young girl she used a pirot (flat-bottomed boat) to cross the bayou to and from school. As a young woman Eugenia married Clemiere Broussard. The couple moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana and raised three children, James, Allen and Rita. In 1944 the family moved to San Francisco where Clemiere took work as a longshoreman. Eugenia worked for many years as a seamstress in downtown San Francisco and Oakland department stores. As a skilled and dignified worker she broke color lines. Most of all, Eugenia will be remembered as a strong family woman. She was proud, pragmatic and strong-willed to the very end. She always insisted that moderation was the key to a healthy long life. She will forever be an inspiration. Eugenia was preceded in death by her husband, Clemiere; sisters Florida Gobert, Florice Whitlock, Mary Dauterive, Elise Francois, and Adoria Boutte; brothers, Joseph, Gilbert, Homer, and Adolph Rochon; son Allen and daughter Rita; grandchildren, Gregory, Debra and Eric Broussard. She is survived by son James; daughters-in-law Marjorie and Odessa; grandchildren James Jr., Diane, Craig and Keith Broussard; great-grandson, Derek Wooldridge, and a host of other family members, nieces, nephews and friends. Public Viewing will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2007 from 10:00AM to 5:00PM at Fouche's Hudson Funeral Home, 3665 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 11:00AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2245 82nd Avenue, Oakland. Internment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
