Eva Libitzky Obituary

Eva Libitzky
February 28, 1924 - May 23, 2021
Resident of Pompano Beach, FL
Eva Libitzky died peacefully in her home in Pompano Beach, Florida on May 23, 2021 at the age of 97 surrounded by her family.
Eva was born in Lodz Poland and at the age of 15, in September 1939 her happy home life came to an end and Eva along with her family were taken to the Lodz Ghetto. Her father died of starvation at the age of 52 and in August 1944 the ghetto was evacuated and Eva and her mother were transported to Auschwitz where her mother was killed immediately and Eva survived the horrors of the worst labor camp. Eva was later on transported to Oederan and in May 1945 she was liberated by the Russian Army and was the only survivor of her family. She met her husband Martin shortly after being liberated and they were married in 1946. In 1949 they moved to the United States, raised a family in Connecticut and in 1991 retired to Pompano Beach Florida. In 2012 Martin died and Eva continued to travel, play bridge MahJongg, play at the casinos, cruise the Caribbean, loved the theatre and wrote a book about her life. She spoke in schools everywhere and answered questions no matter how painful they were. It is with deep sadness we mourn the loss of this incredible woman who believed in love for all. A holocaust survivor, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Eva's memory will live on in her memoir Out on a Ledge which can be found on Amazon.
She leaves behind her children, Moses Libitzky (Susan Libitzky) Anne Petrowsky (Nathan Petrowsky) and Ellie Caruso. Her 5 grandchildren Sharon Petrowsky (Josh Castro) Stacey Petrowsky, Michelle DeGregory (Peter DeGregory), Paul Caruso and Michael Libitzky and 3 great-grandchildren, Madison Alcorn-DeGregory, Noland DeGregory and Olivia Castro.
Donations may be made in memory of Eva Libitzky to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., The Holocaust Documentation & Education Center, 2031 Harrison Street, Hollywood, Florida 33020 or The Jewish Community Federation of SF, 121 Steuart Street, SF, CA 94105.

To Ellie, Anna, Moses and families,
Very sorry to hear about your mother. She was a good family friend and a very nice lady. Your mom and dad were close friends of my parents through many years. We hope your fond memories of her are of some comfort at this difficult time. So sorry for your loss. Best wishes.
