Gail French Obituary

Gail French Resident of Oakley "Gail French, of Oakley, who worked 32 years in the insurance industry and gave countless hours of her time to volunteer work at Freedom High school, died on February 24 at age 56, due to cancer. Born in Oakland in 1955 to Jack and Betty Rinke, Gail was one of 5 siblings, including brothers Gene, Darren, Steve and Chris. Throughout her education, Gail had a love for writing and worked on both the school newspaper and yearbook. In her professional life, she found a niche in the insurance industry where she was employed for the next 32 years. It is later in life that she found her true passion, through volunteer work at Freedom High School. She was an active member of Freedom Boosters, Every 15 Minutes, and Graduation Night, among other activities. She was a familiar face on campus, to say the least. In a time when she faced health and personal struggle, volunteerism brought her a sense of pride and accomplishment. Gail is survived by her daughter Staci of Oakley, son Nicholas, daughter in law Alicia and grandson Joseph of Sacramento. There will be a blessing and burial service at Holy Angels Holy Cross, East 18th St, in Antioch on March 25th at 11:00am, with reception to follow at the Freedom High School cafeteria at noon."

I was her neighbor on Salgado Av 1984-1994. I knew her when she only has Nicholas (she called him Buster). She was friendly and helpful, as I was just 26 years old, married with 2 girls. She helped me grow up. I will never forget her and although am very sad she left us way too soon, we will be reunited in Heaven one day. To Nicholas, I give you love and I have many fond memories of you (one of which when you helped my oldest daughter write in her bedroom wall of our brand new house) That memory makes me smile.

God Bless You All

Gail was a caring, loving person. She got me started in crocheting. Once I complete crocheting a blanket, I will dedicate the project to her. She will truly be missed. She is in Heaven with God!

I first met Gail after I moved from San Francisco. I would always see her on Bart every night. Soon we started talking on a regular basis and we became very close friends. It turns out she and I had alot in common. She worked in the insurance industry as well as myself. We had stories and it seemed our jobs were quite similar.

The last time I saw Gail was in January. She,I and a friend of ours had lunch with her at Orale in Brentwood. We were celebrating her birthday. I loved their place in S.F. and wanted her to try it out. I know how much she loved mexican food. She introduced me to some mexican restaurants in our area.

After meeting Gail for her birthday I would call her to see how she was doing and we would make plans to together again. Soon thereafter, after several calls and no response I sent her a card letting her know how much she met to me and how I was thinking of her. I never heard back from her and only recently received my returned card that was sent about 3 weeks ago stating the address was "vacant". I did not know what to think! I thought she had either taken a turn for the worse and was either in the hospital or living with one of her children. I did not have their phone numbers so I began to search the internet for information. I just realized yesterday that she passed away.

It is so difficult knowing I will never see her again. How often do we talk and see our friends and family members not realizing this may be the last time we heare from them. We take this for granted. It makes you stop and think.

Gail truly loved her family. She was so proud of now being called grandma. She was always happy after returning from seeing her grandson.

I will truly miss her. She had a great heart. She would never ask anyone for anything but was always giving to her family and community. If people could give 1/2 of what Gail did the world would be a better place. She spirit of an Angel. I know she is with the Angels and now in peace.

I will miss you Gail. You were a true friend.

Gail was a very good friend of mine at Marina High School and we both graduated in 1973. She was always such a sweet person, and I valued our friendship. I am thankful that we reconnected a couple of years ago on Classmates and Facebook. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

My sincere condolences to Gail's family. A group of us from Marina Class of 73 reconnected after many years and shared our lives together via email. I'll miss talking about Big Brother and Amazing Race with Gail. She loved those shows! Gail was one of the most selfless women I have ever known. God Bless you Gail and May You Rest in Peace in Heaven.

I first met Gail in the 7th grade and we remained good friends all thru school. I had the good fortune to find her again all these years later and rekindle and enjoy her friendship for these past 3 years. Her passing deeply saddens me. I will never forget all the good times we had so many, many years ago. Rest in peace my friend.

It is with such sorrow that I read about Gail's passing. Gail was such a strong woman, never seeking sympathy, never complaining. A good email(da) sister, who loved her children deeply. She will be missed. Sally (Milosic) Green, Marina High Class of '73
