George Calimeris

Jan. 27, 1921 - Jan. 5, 2009 Resident of San Leandro George Calimeris was born Jan. 27, 1921 in Fitzberg, MA and passed away on Jan. 5, 2009 at the age of 87. George was an insurance agent for over 50 years. He taught Modern Greek for over 30 years at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension in Oakland and the Oakland and Piedmont Adult schools as well as being an interpreter in several Alameda and Contra Costa County courts. He also enjoyed theology, singing and politics, and was a member of the AHEPA organization. George was the loving father of Peter and Paula Calimeris, Dorothy Calimeris and Bob Buonocore. He was also the cherished grandfather of Alexis and Roxanne Calimeris, Claire Buonocore and caring brother of Betty Disses. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rae Calimeris in 1991. Friends and family are welcomed to attend the viewing and Trisagion, Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 6:00 pm at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension Church at 4700 Lincoln Ave., Oakland, CA. The Funeral Service will be Friday, January 9, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension Church. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Oakland, CA.
