George Peters Obituary

George H. Peters Jr.
Nov. 23, 1933 - Mar. 18, 2016
Resident of Concord
George H. Peters, Jr. of Concord, California passed away peacefully in his home Friday March 18, 2016 at the age of 82.
Devoted husband to Mary, loving father to George III, Douglas, Betsy and their respective partners Celeste, Mindi, and Peter, adoring grandfather to Kelsey and Clarisse.
George was born in Richland, WA to Margaret and George Peters Sr., the middle of five children. He is survived by sisters Connie and Betty. George attended high school in Spokane and served honorably in the Navy during the Korean War. After settling in the Bay Area, he met Mary Scott and they were married in 1961 in Oakland.
After working as an engineer for many years, George found his true calling as a Deacon for the Diocese of Oakland; he was ordained in 1982. He was active with St. Bonaventure and Queen of All Saints Parishes. George and Mary were very involved in the church community and particularly enjoyed working with the new Diaconate classes. Later, George became pastoral administrator at St. Alphonsus Parish as well as chaplain at Fairmont Hospital in San Leandro. Most recently, George resided at Chateau on Broadway in Concord where he found much fulfillment by his active involvement in the daily celebration of Mass.
George was an avid A's, Warriors, and Cal Bears fan and regularly attended games with his family. Putting his thoughts to paper was integral to George's daily life and he spent many of his later years writing his memoirs. George also enjoyed John Wayne, vacationing in Bodega Bay with his family, and martinis with two olives. TOM.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30AM, Monday, March 28, 2016 at Queen of All Saints Church, 2390 Grant St., Concord. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette.

Great timing, Deacon George. In Paradise just in time for Easter 2016! Thank you, dear man, for all of the support and guidance you gave me after I succeeded you as the Parish Administrator at St. Alphonsus Parish in San Leandro. You were like an elder brother. Calm, understanding, and providing just the right kind of input and direction when needed. Thanks also for your particular support when my beloved father, John, went to glory a little over ten years ago. You and other St. Alphonsus folk helpd me to carry on and thrive. God love ya! Fr. Deep condolences to the entire family. George's life was surely fulfilling and I'm grateful to know he spent so many recent years making fond memories with his kids and grandkids, especially time spent in Bodega Bay. Peace be with all! Xoxo
