Gordon Tomlinson Obituary

GORDON JOHN TOMLINSON Gordon was born May 5, 1924 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and entered into rest on May 16, 2006. He was 82. He was the beloved son of the late Charles Blake and Mary "Mae" Tomlinson. He was the dearly loved brother of the late Blake F. Tomlinson (Bernadine, RIP) and the late Kenneth A. Tomlinson (Mary, RIP). He was the loved and adored uncle of Colleen Mary Tomlinson Dolan (Jeff) and Timothy Blake Tomlinson (Kathryn). He was the cherished great uncle of Titus, Tara, Holly Tomlinson and Shannon Tomlinson Banach; and Kenneth and Tara Dolin. In 1928, Gordon traveled with his family to San Francisco, where he lived until early adulthood. He attended Farragut and Commodore Sloat Elementary School(s), Aptos Junior High and Balboa High School, all in San Francisco. He went on to attend University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University and the University of the Americas in Mexico City, Mexico. Gordon served in World War II with the United States Army 816th/340th Bomb Squadron where he was stationed in France and later sent to Italy. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. Moving to Belmont in 1947, he was a long time parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He treasured long walks, afterward relaxing on the veranda of his family home surrounded by his father's trellis of beautiful flowers. Over his lifetime, he was devoted to his three lovable dogs, Rex, Ming-Toy, and Darby. Moving to Redwood City in 1984 he continued to enjoy living on the peninsula, and loved walking to Perx's Coffee House (Nance's) for his favorite cup of coffee. In his later years, he enjoyed attending Catholic Charities Adult Day Center, San Carlos. Gordon also loved spending time with his niece, Colleen, and his nephew, Tim, and their families. Gordon will always be remembered for his good nature, his gentle grace, his kindness to others, and his sweet lovable smile! Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1040 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont. Committal will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1500 Mission Road, Colma. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice are preferred. WHITE OAKS CHAPEL SAN CARLOS, CA (650) 591-5791
