Hazel A. Simmons

HAZEL A. SIMMONS MARCH 28, 1916 - JUNE 20, 2007 Passed away peacefully, surrounded by children and grandchildren at her bedside, at the age of 91. Born in Oakland to Antonio and Rose Freitas, Hazel lived in the Bay Area all of her life and graduated from Castlemont High School class of 1934. She devoted herself to home and family, and engaged in volunteer work at Our Lady's Home prior to her mother's death. Her brother, Anthony Freitas is deceased. She was the beloved wife of Dave Simmons, who worked for Safeway stores before passing away in 1984. She is survived by her son, David, who lives in Oakland with his wife Nora; her daughter, Donna Turpin, who resides in Newark; and her sister, Elizabeth Mitchell, who resides in Concord. She is the cherished grandmother of 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A Committal Service will be held at the gravesite, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544, on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 11:00 am.
