James Julien Obituary

JAMES W. JULIEN, SR. Passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2007, in Dallas, Texas. "JJ", as he was affectionately known by his colleagues, graduated from Texas Southern University and California State University, Hayward. After serving as a classroom teacher, he continued to serve Oakland Schools for over 28 years as principal (Roosevelt Junior High, Madison Junior High, McClymonds High School) and vice principal (Woodrow Wilson Junior High, Castlemont High School, Oakland Technical High School). He also worked as a central office administrator and for the Juvenile Justice System. He was dedicated to educational, social and political activities as a member of 100 Black Men, the National Alliance of Black School Educators, United Administrators of Oakland and the NAACP. Most notably he was the creator of other community action groups. He is survived by his devoted wife Georgia Traylor Julien of Dallas; his children Patricia Trent, James Jr., and Jacqueline, John (deceased), all of Oakland; Michael Traylor and Michelle Dursey of Dallas; his siblings, Marie D. Tekle (Kesete) of Houston, Percy L. Julien (JoElla) of Oakland, J. Perry Julien (Solita) of Castro Valley, Leotha A. Jones of Maryland, Harold N. Julien of Oakland, one uncle, Leonard Julien (Agnes) and many other relatives. Funeral services are Monday, August 20 in Dallas with the burial at DFW National Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 8900 Carpenter Freeway, Dallas 75247 or the Kidney Foundation 6110 Executive Boulevard, Rockville, Maryland 20852.
