James Matheney Obituary

James H. Matheney
Aug. 13, 1929 - Feb. 6, 2016
Resident of Alamo
Jim passed away in Alamo after a brief illness. A devoted husband, father and Catholic, many remember Jim and his family filling a pew at St. Isidore's in Danville where he ushered and served donuts after Mass. Barbara, cherished wife of 65 years, called him her "white knight" and he was a third-degree Knight of Columbus and Grand Knight, 1964-66. He is survived by children, Marie Shadden, David (Paula Haywood), Maureen (Ronny) Jones, Eileen (Mike) Binning, Katy Walton, Matt (Lora), ErinRose Handy and grandchildren, Michelle, Kyle, Christine, Victoria, Mitchell, Lindsey, Sam, Candice, Matthew, Ciara, Annabelle and Quinn. Jim was preceded in death by son Tony, daughter-in-law Carol Matheney and son-in-law David Shadden. A Native Son of the Golden West, Jim was born in Oakland, CA, only son of James and Mae Belle Matheney. A 1948 graduate of Castlemont High School, he was sole proprietor of Pipemaster Plumbing adding Alamo Plumbing in 1966. His family remembers good times, especially July 4th picnics, swimming at his home and enjoying jig saw puzzles, games or cryptoquotes with him. He liked auto races, golf and especially baseball and was active in Little League. A Memorial Mass will be offered for Jim at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Danville, Sat, Feb 20th at 10:30 a.m. Reception will follow for family and friends in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shasta Dam Area Little League Challenger Division, Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, Little Sisters of the Poor or the Bruns House.
