Johnnie Davis Obituary
Johnnie Davis
December 29, 1924 - July 18, 2002
On December 29, 1924, in Boise, Mississippi, God delivered a special angel. Johnnie Mae Sears was born to the late John and Pearle Sears.
Johnnie was raised and educated in Mississippi. She received Christ at a young age.
Johnnie married S. M. Davis in 1946. To this union, they had three beautiful daughters, Shirley, Barbara, and Connie. Shirley, who preceded her in death, has been waiting patiently for her mother since 1974. They now rest in peace together.
Johnnie came to California in 1952, where she attended several churches. She united with Bibleway Missionary Baptist church in 1965 under the leadership of Rev. J. W. Wyatt, where she was faithful until her death. Johnnie served faithfully as a Deancaness. She also served on the Pastor's Aide Committee, the Sick and Shut In Committee, the Prayer Buddy Committee and on any other Committee where she was needed.
Johnnie worked briefly at Mare Island and at the Richmond Shipyard, but her true passion was with her family. Johnnie quit these jobs to become a full-time wife and mother.
Not only was she a dedicated church member, but also dedicated to children at school. She was an active P.T.A. member, a classroom mom, a den mother for the girl scouts and campfire girls, and although she had no sons, she was a den mother for the boy scouts too.
Nanny, as she was affectionately known, loved and respected everyone. Those who were blessed to know her will tell you that she never spoke an unkind word. She gave willingly powerful words of wisdom. Nanny was always thinking of others, always willing to help and always willing to open her heart, mind and ears to others. The Bibleway Choir fondly dubbed her their Road Manager/Groupie. She was always there to support them.
Johnnie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 55 years, S.M. Davis; two daughters, Barbara Davis-Smith and Connie Davis-Adams; one son-in-law, John Adams, Jr.; a special Godson, Rev. Cecil Sterns and his wife, Sherry; four grandchildren, Leon A. Hawkins, Mario Smith, Shaunte Adams, and John Adams, III; two granddaughters-in-law, Jennifer Smith and April Horton, five great-grandchildren, Le Tonizzia Hawkins, Chanelle Smith, Dominique Smith, Niema Hawkins, and Mariah Mitchell and one sister, Leatha Davis. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Two sister-in-laws, Rose Taylor and Delores Reese; two brother-in-laws, Wayne Taylor and Samuel People, Sr., a very special cousin, Gertrude Bryson-Taylor, eleven nieces, eight nephews and a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins, Godchildren and friends and her very special friend, Cassie Wyatt.
We will forever love and cherish your memory.
