Lena Sue Matthews

Lena Sue Matthews Apr. 15, 1918 - Nov. 5, 2010 Resident of San Leandro Lena passed away after a short illness. She is survived by her 3 children, son's Richard and Ronald Delk and daughter Karen Stanley. She grew up in Weatherford, OK and relocated to CA in 1936, both she and her deceased husband (Thomas Kelly Delk) became welders for war time ships. After the war, she became a waitress and later a chef. She first started cooking at Manor Bowl in San Leandro, then she went to Hayward where she worked at The Ranch, The Elegant Ranch and The Depot. Lena enjoyed sewing and crochet, however her real joy was card games including pennie poker, she also liked going on bus trips with her friends to Reno for over night gambling. "She was a great competitor." Lena was a long time proud member of the First Christian Church in San Lorenzo, a memorial service will be held, Thurs, at 1pm, Fellowship Hall.
