MARILYN JEAN TUBBS

Marilyn Jean Tubbs December 25, 1930 May 22, 2013 Resident of Pleasant Hill Marilyn passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side losing a 10 month battle with Lung Cancer. She was born at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka Kansas as a Christmas gift to Woodard and Elsie Worthington. After attending High School in Perry she received her Nursing Certification at Stormont-Vale Hospital in 1951. It was while attending Stormont-Vale that she met Clinton. They were married on June 1, 1952. After Clinton was discharged from the Army they moved from Kansas to California in 1956. Marilyn attended University of California Berkeley where she graduated with a B.S. in Nursing with honors in 1958. Clinton and Marilyn settled in Pleasant Hill in 1958 and never left. Marilyn received her Masters Degree in Nursing from University of California, San Francisco in 1968. While raising 3 boys she worked as a school nurse in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District for 31 years. She retired in 1991. In retirement Marilyn has remained active in a variety of activities including American Association of University Women (AAUW) and donating her time to the SAM club at Fair Oaks Elementary School. She also was appointed by the City of Pleasant Hill to serve on the city school education commission. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Clinton, devoted children Greg (Jennifer), Jeff (Rachel), Brad (Cynthia), her loving sisters, Judy (Lawrence, Kansas), Phyllis (Longmont, Colorado), brother Eldon (Perry, Kansas), Grandchildren Ryan, Max, Jake, Eric, and Kristin. Marilyn was preceded in death by her brothers Melvin, Larry, and Keith. Family and Friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Thursday June 6th at 10:00am at Connolly & Taylor Funeral Home, 4000 Alhambra Ave, Martinez. She will later be buried in Dixon at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. The burial will follow a brief assembly at the cemetery. Family and Friends are also invited to a Celebration of Life for Marilyn on Friday June 7th at 7pm at Zio Fraedos in Pleasant Hill, 611 Gregory Lane. We know Marilyn would want the many wonderful people in her life to come and share a good story. She touched the lives so many people.
