Maryann Merenich Obituary

MERENICH, MARYANN BERNADETTE, 73 - of Scranton, PA, died Sunday afternoon in Mercy Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas, who died October 3, 2000. Born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Maurice and Alice Tanski Rader, she was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. She was a graduate of Ashley High School, class of 1951;Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing class of 1954; and she received a Bachelor of Science in health care administration from St. Joseph's University, Windham, Maine. She was employed at Moses Taylor Hospital for 29 years, having served as head nurse of the emergency department, section manager, night supervisor and was past president of the Moses Taylor Auxiliary. After her retirement in 1999, she enjoyed volunteering with her friends at the Moses Taylor Hospital Auxiliary and Retirees. She was den mother to Pack 84, Immaculate Conception Church, and served on the board of directors of the Scranton Preparatory Higher Achievement Program. She received the State EMS Olympic Nursing Award, YMCA Nurse Education Award and was a Northeast Women Award recipient in 1986. From 1990 to 1994, she served as state director for Emergency Nurses Cancel Alcohol Related Emergencies. She was most of all a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by her many friends and colleagues who she touched throughout her life and career. Surviving are five sons, John and wife, Cathy, Centennial, Colo.; William and wife, Mary, Horsham, PA; Robert and wife, Molly, Linwood; Mark, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and Michael and wife, Doreen, Dickson City, PA; 10 grandchildren, Lauren Masters, David, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Daniel, Christopher, Ryan, Meghan, Mary Kate and Erin; a sister, Trudy and husband, Harold Wissel, Suffield, Conn.; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, PA, with Mass at 8:30 in St. Mary's Visitation Church. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery Freeland, PA. Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moses Taylor Auxiliary.
