Mike passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the age of 68. Mike was born in Oakland, and attended St. Louis Bertrand Elementary School and Bishop O'Dowd High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Specialist. Mike was a Registered Nurse at Kaiser Permanente for 30 years in South San Francisco and Fremont, serving in the ICU and Emergency Room, and also managing the Surgery/Pediatrics Unit and Recovery Room (PACU). Mike earned his BS in Computer Science, and enjoyed building and working with computers and learning new technologies. Mike met the love of his life Debbie in 1984 and they married in 1986. They adopted their daughter Christina in 1994 and welcomed their granddaughter Aaliyah in 2019. Mike was a loving, caring, gentle, kind-hearted, and devoted husband, father, and P-Pa with an extraordinarily memorable laugh that brought joy to all of his family and friends. He also barbequed THE best ribs. Mike was an avid fisherman who loved the Giants, Warriors, and 49ers, motorcycles, jazz concerts, traveling, and dogs. Mike is survived by his wife Debbie Comic, daughter Christina Comic, granddaughter Aaliyah Smith, sister-in-law Cathy Hess, and nephew Daniel Hess. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM at Fremont Chapel of the Roses (1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont). Funeral will be Friday, Nov. 12, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church (37588 Fremont Blvd., Fremont) with a reception lunch to follow at the De Sousa House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CAST for Kids (castforkids.org) in Mike's name to honor Mike's love of fishing.
