I am so very sorry to learn of the loss of one of our brightest lights. I send condolences to Dan, and to Michael's family, and to the city of Cinncati which has lost a son. While I am sad to learn of his passing, I rejoice in the fact that it was much later than originally predicted, and that he was able to not only find but legally marry his one true love, of this he told me many times, how grateful he was to have found that.

Dear Michael,
Thank you for so much - for creating an organization that so many of us consider our 2nd family, for fighting the good fight for preservation (and enlightening, encouraging and inspiring myriad others to do the same), for your witty conversation, your sweet friendship and all the dances and cocktails shared. You will be so missed, and I hope you are right about the afterlife because I want you in my life always.

Dan, I am so very sorry to hear of Michael's passing. He was a wonderful part of the Art Deco Society. I'll always remember him in his white suit at the Gatsby; the party won't be as fun without him.

We will greatly miss Uncle Michael, Christmas will never be the same without him there sharing in the celebration. Uncle Mike would send me postcards on all his visits around the world and I still have them, what a joy it was to open the mailbox and have a postcard from him be it from Hawaii, Indonesia, or just from California it was always a pleasure to get those postcards. Love you Uncle Mike. ?

Michael was a gem. I loved the Art Deco events and drove from Arcata to attend. What a guy.

I was so saddened to hear this news. Michael was so generous with his time and energy, a gift to all who had the pleasure of working with him. Those of us on the Oakland Heritage Alliance board will miss him greatly. Kathryn Hughes

I will sorely miss Michael. For many years, he and I jointly led an annual tour of Oakland's Mountain View Cemetery for the Oakland Heritage Alliance - Michael talked about the architectural monuments and I covered the lives of the "departed."
He was a fountain of knowledge and a delight to know, and I shall miss him.

My sympathies to all. I knew Michael from his work with the Art Deco Society and the Oakland Heritage Alliance. I always scrambled to attend when he gave a lecture or tour--he was so informative and entertaining. I'll miss him.
