Michael Domingo Obituary

Michael Angelo Domingo
Oct. 26, 1957 - Apr. 6, 2011
Resident of Walnut Creek
Mike Domingo Passed away on Wednesday morning. He was taken from us by esophageal cancer. He touched many lives with his understanding and compassionate nature.
Mike was born in San Francisco, CA, but grew up in Sylmar CA, a suburb of Los Angeles. He began his 30-year career in the landscape industry at Sheridan Gardens Landscape in Sun Valley, and went on to become manager at Sheridan Gardens Nursery for 10 years. In 1986, he joined Valley Crest Tree Co., where he managed their premier Specimen Tree Nursery in Van Nuys. He became one of a handful of experts on the care and relocation of large specimen palm trees and oak trees on the West Coast.
In 1989 he married his wife Sally and a year later their daughter Holly was born. They moved to Walnut Creek, and it was there that Mike established his own company, Park West Landscape. He was a certified arborist, a licensed landcape contractor, and certified nurseryman. But Mike was best known for his years of coaching CYO St. Marys Track Field and W.C.S.C. soccer. His last seven years as coach has had a great and lasting impact on our youth here in the Walnut Creek community. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed fishing, skiing, and dirtbike riding.
Mike is survived by his wife Sally, his children Holly, Kurtis, Aubrey Coleman of Pahrump, NV, grandchildren Tristan, Paris and Syndey, and his mother Rose Foote of Modesto. He is also survived by his brother John (Juan) Domingo of Oakland, sister Debbie Hetes of Redwood City and sister Sue Sheridan of Modesto. His generous and caring spirit will never be forgotten by those who knew him. Friends and family are invited to a funeral service on Monday, April 18th at 11:00am at Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church at 55 Eckley Lane in Walnut Creek, followed by a reception at 4205 Walnut Blvd. Burial to follow at 2:30pm at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette.

Mike cared about people, and kids. He had great patience, enthusiasm, and respect for everyone. He was modest, hard-working, and he loved helping young athletes get the best out of themselves. He was a binder of diverse people and worked hard to make order out of chaos--he knew that's how teaching energetic kids worked out. He was a lot of fun to be around, and inspiring in being completely devoted to his family. Many, many people will miss him greatly.
