Norma Martino Obituary
Resident of Alameda
Born in Alameda on November 9, 1917 to the late Fred and Lucia Ferrero, Norma passed away peacefully on May 8, 2011. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest B. Poggi, and second husband, Joseph Martino; beloved mother of Ernie Peter Poggi and Arleen Poggi Shannon; aunt to Fred (Kennon) Ferrero, Tom (Sue) Poggi, Gerri (Corey) Merrick. She also leaves behind many loving cousins and cherished friends.
An active member of the community, Norma was past president of ICF Branch #10, Longfellow PTA, Woodstock PTA, and Alameda Eagles Auxiliary, a volunteer at Alameda Hospital and Emmanuel Nursing Home, where she often played the piano, and a proud member of St. Joseph's Basilica since 1951.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday after 5:00pm and are invited to attend the Vigil Service, also on Thursday, at 6:00pm, followed by a reception, all at Greer Family Mortuary, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:00am at St. Joseph's Basilica, 1109 Chestnut St., Alameda, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, 4529 Howe St., Oakland.
