Oscar Coffey Obituary

OSCAR J. COFFEY, prominent national businessman and churchman wife died. JIMMYE MARKS COFFEY, BELOVED WIFE OF OSCAR J. COFFEY PASSED AWAY QUIETLY AND PEACEFUL WITH HER HUSBAND AND NEPHEW, Etheridge Marks III present with her, at 11:50 PM, on Tuesday, November 13, 2001. Jimmye was born in Crosby, Texas on May 29, 1921 to Ethridge Marks Sr. and Bertha Marks. The family later moved to Houston, Texas. Jimmye graduated from Phylis Wealthy High School in Houston. She is a alumns of Prairie View University. In 1953 Jimmye moved to Oakland, California. She joined the McGee Avenue Baptist Church of Berkeley and served as a member of Eunice Circle, American Baptist Women and Sisters United. She is also a retired Project manager with the Oakland Housing Authority. She was a life member of the National Council of Negro Women and former President of it's Alameda County Section. She leaves to mourn her Husband, Oscar J. Coffee, and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Friends are invited to viewing at Chapel of the Chimes located at 4499 Piedmont Ave. Oakland, CA on Friday, November 16, 2001 from 2:00 to 8:00. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2001 starting at 12 noon at McGee Avenue Baptist Church located at 1640 Stuart Street, at the corner of McGee and Stuart, Berkeley, California. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any contributions be made payable to the McGee Baptist Family Life Center, a tax exemption organization.
