Patricia Barber Obituary

Patricia Barber
May 11, 1937 ~ Sept. 19, 2017
Resident of Fremont, CA
Patricia Barber passed away at home within a couple of months after being diagnosed with cancer.
She was born in Washington D. C., the first child of Charles and Carolyn Planck, and grew up in Arlington, Va.
Her teenage years were highlighted by youth group bicycling, camping activities and family vacations in the American West, Algonquin Park in Canada, and England.
While attending Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio she met and married Donald Barber, who was stationed at nearby Wright-Patterson AFB. They lived in Ashtabula, Ohio and Glenn-Ferris, West Virginia prior to being transferred to Fremont, Ca. in 1961. Once settled there, they started their family.
Having been the family cook when she was in high school, Pat was devoted to that endeavor, and made it an art for her entire life. She loved to invent new dishes, host dinner parties, and worked as a part time chef at a local deli.
She enjoyed classical music, opera and jazz in the concert hall, as well as listening at home. Other interests included: reading mysteries and other fiction, world travel and the San Francisco Giants.
She was a lifelong Liberal and volunteer, who felt passionately about human rights for all. A rare gem who loved life, she will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Patricia is survived by her husband of sixty years, Donald, her son Andrew of Leesburg, Va., her daughter Carey Perez of Fremont, and her brother Charles Planck of Purcellville, Va.
A private memorial will be held for family and friends.
