Robert "Bob" Gillies passed away on Valentine's Day one year after a major auto accident at age 87.
Bob was born in Michigan of Scottish ancestry. He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor receiving a Ph.D. in Bacteriology. After a year as Research Associate at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Bob had a 42 year career with Del Monte Foods in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a Director of Research, he was instrumental in bringing the Del Monte Research Center to Walnut Creek.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, and is survived by his four children, Linda Russell (Ron) of Concord, Ralph Gillies of Walnut Creek, Norman Gillies (Debby) of Spokane, WA, and Jim Gillies (Victoria) of Concord. He had six grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service on Friday, Feb. 22 at 11 am at Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Road in Lafayette.
