I was so saddened to hear the news of Steve's passing. I am a former floor covering installer that worked for Mortensen's at times and I retired as a Union Business
Representative from the Floor Covering Union here in the Bay Area, Local Union 12. It made no difference which hat I wore; Steve always treated me with respect and in any situation, an unbridled sense of humor. In all the years I knew Steve, his installers always spoke of him with a sense of affection. Steve’s legacy will live on with us, since many of his former installers now enjoy a secure retirement due to Mortensen’s contributions to our retirement fund. Many thanks Steve and we will never forget you brother!

Dear Shirley: Hal and I just read the chronicle and saw Steve's obituary. We were so shocked and saddened! We were table partners on February 28th and had not heard that he was ill. We can't find any mention of where or when his memorial will be on Wednesday. We have a preop doctor appointment in the morning and early afternoon that day as I am having knee surgery on Friday Oct. 2nd. But, if you let us know we can be with you to celebrate Steve's life in the afternoon. Please let us know if it is convenient for you. We always enjoyed Steve so very much. He was a wonderful man. Steve and I met in 1960 at Oakland High School. He so impressed me with his super sense of humor and his great wit. We became like brothers from then on.
Knowing Steve and his family all these years has made my life better. Thanks Steve!
He was my “Best Man” when I married (my) Shirley in 1964.
We enjoyed many fun travels and good times together. When we spoke on the phone in June, he was so optimistic and excited about life. He said that (his) Shirley was the light of his life.
We will always love and remember Steve for the special person he was to us and to all who knew him.

You were like an uncle to me and my siblings. You were a dear friend to my parents. It had been so long since I last saw you. I think you were playing poker with my dad. I will always remember your house with the little boat outside. You had such a great sense of humor, and you had so much love to give. You will always be in my heart. I will miss you Uncle Steve. May you Rest In Peace.

Coffee and Bagels will never be the same. It was an extreme pleasure and honor in my association with you on week-ends during our week-end coffee group meeting with Larry, Lillian, and George.
You have been immortalized due the pleasant memory you expressed to myself and others. As promised, you have been acknowledged in my father's new book ' The Laughing Gorilla ' which is due to be released on 6 Oct 09. It will be signed by the author and will forward to your loving wife Shirley to accept in your honor.
May you rest in peace.
God Bless, your friend alaways David
