Teresa Espiritu Saribay succumbed to cancer on Sunday.
Teresa was born in Manila, Philippines, and came to California in 1969. She is a graduate of Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, CA and an alumna of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. At USC, she earned a bachelors in Education and was awarded the Outstanding Student Teacher of her graduating class. She enjoyed a 37 year career teaching and mentoring in public elementary schools, first in Los Angeles, and then in the East Bay's Mt. Diablo School District. She retired this year as a beloved kindergarten teacher at Woodside Elementary School in Concord, CA and was recognized by the District with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Teresa is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Edward, and her three devoted sons Theodore of San Francisco, CA; Douglas of Studio City, CA; and Calvin of Pullman, WA. She is also survived by her parents, Godofredo and Sonia Espiritu of Los Angeles, CA; and by her close sisters Peachy Dia (Gil) of San Dimas, CA; Francine Cortez (Joel) of Arcadia, CA; and Michelle Lim (Gene) of Dana Point, CA. Her warmth and energy will be missed by her friends, family, and school community.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing and prayer service on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Perpetua Church in Lafayette, CA. On Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, another viewing will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at St. Perpetua Church, followed by a funeral Mass there at 10:00 a.m. and interment at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette. A reception and celebration of Teresa's life will begin at 12:15 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building in Lafayette.
