Travis McAfee Obituary

Major Travis Thomas McAfee
June 7, 1929-January 27, 2012
Resident of Lafayette
Major Travis T. McAfee passed away in his Lafayette home after battling illness for five-years, and is now at peace. He spent his days at home surrounded by his loving family. Travis was born in Kilgore, TX. He retired with military honors as a pilot in the United States Air Force after serving active duty for 21 years. Following his full military career, Travis embarked on a 21-year journey as a member of the original team of BART computer controllers where he soon became a supervisor. Travis was one of the founders of the Black Families Association of Contra Costa County; he was a Brother in the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and a member of the Diablo Black Men's Group. He was also an avid bowler, card player, photographer, and world explorer. He and his wife took over 40 cruises together! Travis was known for his generous nature, always helping whenever and however needed. He will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis, daughters Michelle and Monica, his five grandchildren, and a host of other adoring family and friends. Funeral Services are being held on Friday, February 3rd, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakmont Mortuary Inspiration Chapel at 2099 Reliez Valley Road in Lafayette.
