Virginia Patton Obituary

Virginia Patton AKA "Virgi" of San Leandro, CA was born on October 10th, 1921 and passed away in her home at age 89 in the early morning of October 20th, 2010. She was born to Raleigh and Alice Johnson in Detroit Michigan and moved to Oakland, Ca as a young child. Virginia was a long time resident of San Leandro, moving there when she married her late husband Kenneth Patton in 1955. Virginia lived a long eventful life, where she enjoyed many activities and had many passions. One of Virginia's passions was cosmetology and in 1941 she became a state certified cosmetologist. In May of 1964 Virginia opened the Nimitz Beauty Salon where she was a beautician for over 20 years before closing in 1986. Virginia took pride in her fashion trends, her hair and accessories and was a true fashionista of her time. Virginia also enjoyed traveling and did so as much as she could. Some of her favorite places to travel were the Hawaiian Islands and more local places such as Sonora. Gardening was an activity that Virginia enjoyed all her life and her yards and house were always full of colorful and beautiful plants and flowers. Gardening brought every day joy to her life and it is something she enjoyed even into her later years. Those who predeceased Virginia were her father and mother Raleigh and Alice Johnson, her husband Kenneth Patton, a younger brother Bert Johnson and a younger sister June DuVall. Even though Virginia loved being a beautician, traveling and gardening there was nothing that she loved more than those who survive her. Virginia's son Raleigh Reed of San Leandro, Ca; her younger brother Ted Johnson of San Francisco, Ca; the eldest granddaughter Tami Hughes and her husband Chad Hughes of NV/San Leandro, Ca; the youngest granddaughter Traci Young and her husband Brock Young of Stockton, Ca and two great grandchildren Brock and Brooke Young also of Stockton, Ca. Towards the end of Virginia's life she cherished every moment she was able to spend with her precious great grandkids and was pleased to know that she was going to have a third great grandchild born in December of this year. Virginia is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Virginia may now walk in the arms of Angels but she will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones. A private gathering will be held by the family to celebrate the life of Virgi Patton.
