Vladislav V. Dobrohotoff
December 1, 1936 - November 11, 2021
Resident of Martinez, CA
Vlade, as he was called, was born in Shanghai, China of Russian Descent. When the Japanese invaded China his father moved them to Sao Paulo Brazil. Then to the USA. Vlade became a proud American citizen at the age of 16. His family was active in the Russian Orthodox church. They finally settled in NY. Vlade excelled in school and after high school was accepted to MIT, but chose to stay close to home and attended the City college of New York. He was an outstanding student, graduating cum laude from the school of engineering. He was given the 1958 Hamilton Award to the student most successfully combining proficiency in his major field with achievements in social sciences and humanities. He met and Married his Russian sweetheart at the age 21, Margaret Narboot in January of 1959. He earned his masters degree in chemical engineering from Columbia University in 1960. After teaching descriptive geometry and drafting at CCNY from 1958 to 1960, he took a position as a process analysis and manager at Allied Chemical located in Richmond, VA. He joined Merck in 1966 where he held a variety of positions including Manager of Automation and Control, Director of distribution of the chemical division, Director of sales and marketing Calgon division in Pittsburgh, PA. He moved to Brussels Belgium as managing director of Chemviron for Europe, Africa and the Middle east. From Belgium Vlade and his family moved to SF where he became VP and general manager of the Paco Division. After retiring from Merck he was a business consultant for the food processing industry out of Nilrna Italy.
He spoke Russian, Italian and 4 other languages. Vlade was talented, gifted, a loving husband and father. He leaves behind his Wife Margaret, daughter, Elizabeth and his Sister Eugenie Zamiaty. His son Vlade Jr. predeceased him in the year 2000.
