As a young senior member, I was the beneficiary of Gen. Barry's confidence and trust serving as a neophyte Cadet Programs Director. His quiet steady patience, understanding, wisdom, and support fostered a legacy of programs which continues to bless so many to this day. CAP and this world are all the richer for his mentorship, and much, much sadder that he's finished his task. I salute you Sir, and will be forever grateful for your leading and teaching and will likewise forever respect you. Rest in Peace, Sir.

I had the extreme pleasure to be Warren's California Wing Director of Operations, Pacific Region Director of Operations and CAP National Headquarters SAR Advisor. Colonel Barry supported me at all levels in moving SAR technology forward for the United States Air Force and CAP National Headquarters. We brought Satellite Weather and FAA Radar Tracking into the national system and as a result the Air Force credited us with saving thousands of lives in our search and rescue operations and implementing stored FAA Radar Data to reduce search hours nationally by over 25,000 hours of flying per year. Warren was a great leader and we all accomplished much together. He was the best of the best. His life in support of National Search and Rescue is a credit to the USAF motto "That Others May Live"! We also did much to improve our CAP response for natural disasters in a similar manner.

Warren and I were first cousins, the only 1st cousin each of us had. While growing up, our families would spend many holiday dinners together, though in those years, he lived in Richmond and I was in Burlingame. In 1955, typical of his kindness, he and Carol met my A.F. husband and me at night in pouring rain at SFO when we returned from Texas to spend our first Christmas at "home". He also visited us a couple of times when we were living in other parts of the U.S., and he was always interested in all things connected with flying. In recent years I've had the pleasure and privilege of being included in several of his family's holiday dinners. I will always treasure the memories of my dear Cuz Warren.

Warren was a wonderful man, both he and Carol will be greatly missed by all. It is so hard to put into words how much of an effect he had on mine and my husband's lives. My condolences to the family, and know that he will be in my prayers.

From 1990 to 1993, I served as Warren's CAP National Vice Commander and have the highest respect for his selfless service to our country and Air Force. I succeeded him as CAP National Commander, and he was a trusted advisor during that time, as he was to all CAP National Commanders since. Warren was honored by an article in Reader's Digest magazine, which captured the selfless and humble nature of this great and noble man. CAP and our country are better for his service, and his legacy will endure always.

I was a Cadet in Concord CA back in the late 60's my brother even had a job inserting the ads in the Sunday paper. When my family moved to NM, I really missed the unit, but I stayed CAP until I was transferred to Spain by the USAF.
I rejoined CAP in the early 90's in SD. I remember his name and face from that time. I never had a chance to meet the General, I wish I had.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
