Longtime resident of Alameda
Xavier Vargas Rivera (the Honorary Mayor of Alameda) Passed away on September 24, 2014 in Alameda due to heart complications. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Rivera-Valdez, Grandchildren Mark & Eric Holt, Stephani & Christopher Valdez, his Brother, Frank Rivera, Sister Patt Carmignani. Great Grand-Children and many Nieces and Nephews. Visitation will be Monday September 29, 2014, 4-8pm, Vigil at 7pm. Prayer services will be Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 11am. Both Services will be at Alameda Funeral & Cremation Services, 1415 Oak Street, Alameda. Interment Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hayward immediately following the services. For further information please contact Harry W. Greer, Funeral Director (FDR745).

I can't believe it's been ten years. It seems like only yesterday, he was threatening to make our cat into a taco! Ha! He had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful neighbor. We miss his loving energy.

Grandpa, I will miss you dearly. I looked forward to our long conversations every Christmas. Its what made the holidays, holidays. Your laughter, your love.. you touched my heart, and im sure many more. Your memory is always with me. Christmas day, I will remember you. I guess God needed another angel, so he decided to take you. Just talked to this amazing man two weeks ago!!!!! He was the sweetest man ever....always wanting to know how we were all doing!!! My heart goes out to the family during this time......he was our only connection to this family and I hope that changes.i know that's what he would want... You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this time!!!!!

Xavier was a great neighbor and the Mayor of Schiller Street. He was always happy and full of conversation, alway looking out for everyone in the neighborhood. We will sincerely miss him.
