On the afternoon of Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Charles Jackson Snyder departed this life. He was 87 years old.
Charles was born in Lyon, Kansas, on July 29, 1937, to parents Marion Snyder and Helen Hufferd (Kettner). He married the love of his life, Julia Lois Sailor, on April 13, 1957, in the city of Wichita, Kansas. Though parts of their nearly 68 years of marriage weren't always rosy, there was never a doubt that Charles loved Lois deeply. During their marriage, Charles and Lois welcomed five children: son, Charles Paul (deceased) and daughters, Julie, Roxanne, Sherry, and Sheryl.
Charles lived quite a life. In his youth, he was a dirt-track drag racer, winning many times in his grandfather's 1937 Ford coupe.
Like his brother Rusty, Charles was a hard worker, starting work at just eight years old and continuing into his 70s. Charles spent several decades providing for his family as a structure foreman for BNSF railroad, a job that kept him quite busy. You'd be surprised by the number of semi-trucks that hit railroad bridges.
Charles loved to build things. You name it; he could build it. And through his 87 years on earth, Charles built a beautiful and full life.
Charles is fondly remembered for his unique use of words (like referring to the car stereo as a "boombox"), his extraordinary tolerance for spicy foods, his ability to somehow cook bacon perfectly in a microwave, his signature look of denim-on-denim shirt and jeans, and the country western music that would play in the bathroom when you switched on the light. It was as reliable and consistent as taxes.
Charles is survived by his wife; Lois, brother; Rusty, sisters; Andie, Darla, Delellen, and Victoria, four daughters, fifteen grandchildren, and many great and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents; Marion Snyder and Helen Kettner, her husband Carl Kettner, son; Charles Paul Snyder, sister; Beverly Stevenson, and brothers; Micheal Snyder and Chris Snyder.
