John Henry Fisher, 89, of Midland, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025.
Born in Portales, New Mexico, John graduated from Portales High School in 1953 and proudly served two years in the United States Army. After his military service, he attended Eastern New Mexico University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Universal Studies in 1973.
On July 28, 1973, John married the love of his life, Dee Fisher, in Clovis, New Mexico. Together they shared 52 devoted years of marriage. John's greatest joy was caring for Dee and making sure she always knew how deeply she was loved.
John's career reflected his lifelong commitment to service and community. He served as Assistant Police Chief with the Clovis Police Department, Sheriff of Red River, New Mexico, and later as a Special Agent and eventually Superintendent of Special Agents for the Santa Fe Railroad's New Mexico Division. He concluded his distinguished career as an Adult Probation Officer for Ector County in Odessa, Texas.
To his grandchildren, John was simply known as "Pawpaw." He loved giving each of them a special nickname, creating bonds they will cherish forever. Holidays were his favorite time nothing made him happier than when the house was alive with family, laughter, and love. John also had a gift for woodworking, a craft through which he poured his patience and love. Perhaps the most treasured creation of all was the treehouse he built for his two granddaughters who spent their summers with him and Dee. That treehouse wasn't just wood and nails it was a place of magic, laughter, and adventure, and the memories made there will remain etched in their hearts forever. At Christmas, John's woodworking came to life for the whole community he built a life-sized Santa and Mrs. Claus with their sleigh, just so he could bring a smile to everyone who passed by.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Dee Fisher; children Debra (Bill) Tanner of Oklahoma, Robin (John) Forneris of Oklahoma, and Vicki (Mike) St. John of Midland, Texas; seven grandchildren: Brandy (Jimmy) Burnett of New Castle, OK, Shannon (Nick) Tomlin of Midland, TX, Billy Tanner of Okemah, OK, Blaine St. John of Midland, TX, Derek Sheldon of Prague, OK, Bobby (Lisa) Vinson of Clovis, NM, and Adam (Abby) Vinson of Clovis, NM; as well as many cherished great-grandchildren.
