Kody Vaughan Obituary

Funeral services for Kody Vaughan, 36, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with James Love officiating, assisted by Leslie Rector. Burial will follow at the Causey Cemetery with Adrian Loera, Adrian Gutierrez, T. J. Stickland, Kevin Victor, Jeremy Neal and Cody McCord serving as pallbearers. All linemen will be honorary pallbearers.
Kody was born to Judy (Blakey) and Ronnie Vaughan June 22, 1985, in Clovis NM. He passed from this life to join God and many of his heroes on September 24, 2021, in Oklahoma City, OK. Kody was married to Tatum Thron July 22, 2006. Two children were born to this marriage and were the light of Kody's eyes; Kasen Blake Vaughan and Taylin Olivia Vaughan. Kody was re-baptized with his son Kasen on Easter Sunday of 2021. What a joyful day.
Kody attended Portales schools until the fifth grade. In the sixth grade he went to Texico and graduated in 2003. After graduation he attended Eastern New Mexico University before deciding school wasn't for him. Apple Santillanes hired him on at Roosevelt County Electric, where Kody was determined to follow in his step-dad, Terry Reid's footsteps who worked for SPS/Excel Electric for 34 years. Many thanks to Apple for taking a chance on a young, wet behind the ears employee and training him up right and teaching him about safety. He worked for Roosevelt County Electric until 2010 when he moved to Clovis and went to work for Farmers Electric. In 2017 he went out on contract line crews and traveled from Carlsbad to Oklahoma City.
Kody is survived by his son Kasen Blake Vaughan, his daughter Taylin Olivia Vaughan, his mother Judy Clark and step-dad Ray Clark, his father Ronnie Vaughan, brothers Kasey (Nadine) Vaughan, Rance (Emily) Inge, Shaun (Erin) Reid and long time brother and best friend Adrian (Jennifer) Loera. He is also survived by two new sisters, Melissa (Treven) Sprinkle and Rebecca (Taylor) Brooks, his grandmother Joann Blakey and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his stepdad Terry O. Reid, a brother Landon Reid, his grandpa L.R. Blakey, his grandma Marsha Reid, his grandparents Kenneth and Lena Vaughan, his great-grandparents Mack and Ruby Blakey, and Oscar and Jessie McCormack and his uncles Dick Blakey and most recently, another uncle Kim Blakey.

I had the pleasure of coaching Kody at Texico. He was such a pleasant, good-mannered and hard-working young man. I still remember giving Kody rides home from basketball games when we would get in late. He gave me the opportunity to really get to know him and I appreciated that so much.
