Mark Daugherty Obituary

Mark Edward Daugherty, 62, of Tatum, New Mexico, passed away March 18, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.
Mark was born to Robert and Geneva Daugherty on April 27,1960 in Roswell, New Mexico. He graduated from Elida High School in 1978. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1983 and his Master of Arts degree in Agricultural Extension Education in 1990 from New Mexico State University. He served the Tatum Municipal School District as their AG teacher, FFA advisor, junior high football and basketball coach, and activity bus driver for 24 years. He was also the announcer at varsity football games and his witty remarks will be with us always. Previously he taught at Capitan Municipal Schools, Carlsbad Municipal Schools, and Dora Consolidated Schools for a total of 35 years teaching in education.

He received numerous awards including:
New Mexico Agriculture Education Teachers Association (NMAETA) Ag Education Teacher of the Year 2022.
Tatum Municipal Schools Board of Education Outstanding Educator 2021.
NMSU College of Agriculture Outstanding Agriculture Teacher Award 2014.
National FFA Association Honorary American FFA Degree 2013.
NMAETA Outstanding Ag Education Teacher of the Year 2013.
NM FFA Association Honorary State Degree 2012.
Tatum Municipal Schools Educator of the Year 2007.
ENMU Teacher Excellence in Agricultural Education 2005.

He was a member of the NM FFA Board of Trustees, the Lea County Soil and Water Conservation Board, was president of the NMAETA in 2006, and was a member of the Tatum Baptist Church. Most recently he has received the honor of being inducted into the NM Ag Teacher Hall of Fame at NMSU.
His greatest joys in life were his grandchildren and going fishing. He made an impact on thousands of people over his life and will never be forgotten. His FFA program consistently ranked as one of the best in the state because of his efforts in and out of the classroom inspiring and motivating students to strive for success. They won a total of 119 competition awards at the state level and placed 12 times at the national level.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandy Daugherty and his children Amanda Daugherty, Sean Daugherty and wife Bailee, and Breanna Armstrong and husband Colton, his grandchildren Kenna, Creed, Brogan, and Barrett, and his brothers Jim Daugherty and wife Cathy, Donald Daugherty, and Alan Daugherty. He is preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a celebration of life on April 29th at Tatum Municipal Schools. The family wants to invite anyone who would like to come and celebrate Mark. Thank you Mark for allowing me to be a small part of your life. Enjoyed very much our years together working at Tatum. Students, staff and administration could not have had a more professional, positive educator.
