Roger Haynie Obituary
Roger Eugene Haynie, 74, a U.S. Air Force veteran, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Monday, October 27, 2025. Roger fought a courageous 15-year battle with illness.
He was born on November 26, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Eugene and Virginia Haynie. At 19, Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for 21 years. While stationed in England, he met the love of his life, Yvonne Westley, and they were married on July 3, 1971. Together, they were blessed with three children: Alyson, Shannon, and Gavin. In 1985, the family moved to Clovis, New Mexico. After retiring from the Air Force in 1992, Roger continued to work in various positions, including more than 10 years with Clovis Municipal Schools.
Roger's grandchildren were the light of his life. He cherished every moment spent with them-sleeping in tents, telling stories, visiting the zoo or golf course, building birdhouses, riding bikes, and simply playing together. Those special memories will be treasured forever.
A lifelong student of history, Roger had a passion for sharing knowledge about our nation's past, including the order of the presidents, their vice-presidents, states, and capitals. He loved to quiz his grandchildren, the students he worked with and random people he met on historical trivia. An avid reader, he devoured history books-many of which few others had ever heard of. Roger also loved spending time outdoors, whether reading on the porch, washing cars, mowing the lawn, or finding a new project to tackle in the garage.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne; daughters Alyson Mitchell and her husband, Craig, of Lubbock, Texas; Shannon Treadwell and her husband, Russ, of Deming, New Mexico; and son Gavin Haynie and his wife, Tabitha, of Clovis, New Mexico. He is also survived by his six grandchildren-Ashton (Austin) Polk, Avery Mitchell, Maison Treadwell, Coleman Mitchell, Ella Haynie, and London Haynie-and one great-grandson, Kallen Polk.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of Roger's life on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Living Stones Community Church of the Nazarene in Clovis, N.M. at 1:00 PM MST, with Pastor Rusty Brian of Clovis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to support Mission MSA (Multiple System Atrophy), 1660 International Drive, Suite 600, McLean, Virginia, 22102.
