Celia Thompson Obituary

Celia Mae Brooks Thompson was born in Monticello, Fla., on Jan. 5, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Brooks Sr. and the late Elizabeth Edwards. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, later joining Casa Bianca Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed. She received her early education from Union Branch Church School and graduated from Howard Academy High School. She worked various jobs in the Monticello community and retired from the Jefferson County School District as a Food Service Manager for thirty-five years.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Old Jefferson County High School Auditorium. Viewing-visitation is 4 -7 pm Friday at Casa Bianca M.B. Church. Wake service will begin at 5 p.m.
Celia was a devoted mother, wife and friend, whose life was a testament to love and service. Her unwavering dedication to her family was matched only by her passion for her community and her faith. A cherished member of Casa Bianca Missionary Baptist Church, she served in various roles, including, but not limited to, The Mother's Board, Choir President, Sunday School/Bible Study Teacher, Church Secretary, Hospitality Committee and Missions Ministry.
Her vibrant spirit, shown brightly in her involvement with community events, namely, the Jefferson County Senior Citizen Center, where she forged lasting friendships with her infectious smile and laughter. Her legacy of kindness, generosity and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
On Sept. 18, 1959, she married the love of her life, Herbert Thompson Jr. To this union, six children were added of which two died shortly after birth, and the other four were raised and nurtured in the Lord.
On Nov. 25, 2024, Mother Celia heard and answered the Master's call and is now "Safely Home." She leaves to cherish her love and memories, a son, Eddie (Valarie) Thompson, Ocoee, Fla.; three daughters, Kimye (Theodore, deceased) Chaires, Tallahassee, Fla., Cumi (Michael Sr.) Allen, Monticello, Fla., Terris Thomas, Athens, Ga.; twelve grandchildren, Zacretia, Kristen, Eddie II, Malarie, Michael III, Michelle, Steffan, DeAndre, Demetric, Shelton Sr., Dreidan and Naya; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Daniel (Clotilla) Brooks, West Palm Beach, Fla.; three brothers-in-law, Hopkins (Burnette) Thompson, Willie Thompson, Richard Glenn, all of Monticello, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Sadie Swan, Monticello, Fla., and Mazarine (Allen) McMullen, Penny Farms, Fla.; an aunt, Geneva Coleman, Jacksonville, Fla.; an uncle, John Henry (Catherine) Baity, Lake Alfred, Fla.; Godsisters, Ruth Brooks Taylor, Tallahassee, Fla., and Barbara Jean Crumity, Monticello, Fla.; two Goddaughters, Roxie (Artha) Brooks-Hopkins and Flora Huggins; and a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives, loving friends and a special caretaker, Zamahni Dawson, her great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Thompson Jr.; two babies, Jerome and Deandre; her parents, Daniel and Elizabeth; and three siblings, Ruby Lee, Josephine and Russell.
