Born on May 11, 1945, in Monticello, Florida, to the late Eugene Sr. and Clara Hill. Henry was raised in a close-knit community where his generous spirit first took root. A proud graduate of Howard Academy High School, Class of 1964, Henry ventured to Tampa, Florida, before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army. His military service was distinguished and honorable, earning him numerous accolades including the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, and the Sharpshooter (Rifle) designation.
After his service, Henry settled in New Jersey, where he built a life grounded in hard work and community. He dedicated 36 years to Ford Motor Company before retiring only to find joy in a second career as a beloved Crossing Guard in Irvington for 14 more years. "Hen" had a special way with children, greeting each one with kindness and care. They adored him, and he adored them right back.
Henry's life was filled with simple pleasures and deep connections. He cherished going on cruises with his longtime companion, Diane Walker, and found joy in family gatherings, where he insisted his nieces and nephews call him "Hen" instead of "Uncle Henry" a reflection of his easygoing nature and youthful heart.
On Friday, September 19, 2025, God Almighty summoned Henry to his eternal rest. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind: a life of service, love, and laughter.
He is survived by his devoted sister Doretha Johnson (Jack), his half-brother Reggie Gallon, and his cherished godchildren Jack Johnson Jr., Angela McFadden, Ty-Quan Daniels, Azari Daniels, Jamila Rogers, and Monte Cooper, whom he raised as his own. He also leaves behind a host of sorrowing family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Henry Lee Hill lived with purpose, loved without condition, and left this world better than he found it. Rest well, Hen. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
The caring professionals at Hagan Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with the Hill family arrangements.
