Audrey Nielsen

1926 - 2017

Audrey Jane (Hagen) Nielsen, age 91, of Elgin passed away on October 7, 2017. Audrey was born in Albert Lea, MN on August 21, 1926 to Dr. Henry Otto Hagen and Louise (nee Leaf) Hagen. On July 1, 1950 Audrey married Peter Cornelius Krupp II and they had 4 children: Peter, Elizabeth, Consuela and Suzanne. She later married Paul Nielsen, who had 2 children, Lona and Jens, from a prior marriage. Together Audrey and Paul had a son, Steven, bringing the number in their blended family to seven. Audrey worked as a legal secretary from 1960 - 1968 then worked for the State of Illinois, until she retired at age 76. During her time working for the State of Illinois, Audrey went back to school to learn Spanish so she could translate and communicate as an adjudicator. This led Audrey to play the piano for Spanish First Baptist Church of Elgin, where she combined her love of music with her enjoyment of the Spanish language and her faith. Audrey attended St. Olaf College and St. Louis University where she attained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin for 58 years. Over the years she played the piano there and was active in the Evangelical Women's Ministry. Survivors include her children, Peter C. (Louise) Krupp of Quincy, MA , Consuela C. Krupp of Elgin, Suzanne L. ( Marc) Vogt of Rye, NH and Steven P. (Pamela) Nielsen of Oswego, IL as well as grandchildren Blair Threatt, Evan Nielsen, Kelli Nielsen, Matthew Vogt and Sarah Vogt. In addition to her parents and husband, Paul, she is preceded in death by her brothers Winston and Calvin Hagen and her daughter, Elizabeth Krupp Breach. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave, Elgin, IL 60123 with a luncheon following the service. Private graveside services will take place at River Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, West Dundee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
