Charles R. Hanson Sr., 86, of West Chicago, passed away, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at JourneyCare, Barrington. He was born May 29, 1929 in Chicago, IL the son of Charles W. Hanson and Frances (Hanisch) Hanson. He was retired from National Gypsum Co., and was owner of Northwest Building Materials Inc. He was an avid bowler, fisherman and snowmobiler. Surviving are his 3 loving children, Charles "Chick" (Nancy) Hanson Jr. of Elgin, Katharine Henry of St. Charles and Scott (Lori) Hanson of Sublette, IL, 8 grandchildren, Julie Hanson, Joyce Perrin, Katie (Tyler) Keeton, Wilbert "Willie" Henry, Amy (Ross) Klawitter, Jennifer (Vincent) Jamison, Joshua (Haley) Hanson and Chaon Hanson; 6 great grandchildren, Marleigh Perrin, Kaizen, Ries and Rowan Klawitter, Owen and Liam Jamison and one on the way. Also surviving are his cousins, Elizabeth "Betty" Freeman and Charles "Charlie" Freeman; his sister, Carol Hanson, brother, Ken (Betty) Hanson and his nieces, Jennifer and Stephanie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Marian on Feb. 15, 2015 after 65 years of marriage and his grandson, Eric Hanson in 1990. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 4 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and in the church on Monday from 9:45 A.M. until the time of mass.
