Dorothy Rios

1934 - 2016

Dorothy A. (nee Van Keulen) Rios, age 81, of Elgin passed away on Friday morning, September 23, 2016, at her home surrounded by family. Dorothy was born on December 2, 1934, in Chicago and was the youngest of 10 children born to the late John & Marie (nee Verhoeven) Van Keulen. On October 30, 1958, she married James J. Rios, Sr. Jim preceded Dorothy in death on March 26, 2008, after 50 years of marriage. For over 40 years, Dorothy was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin. She was a former employee of First Card in Elgin for over 35 years prior to retirement. Survivors include her children; James J. (Cindy) Rios, Jr. and Robin (Robert) Karras. Her grandchildren; Stephanie Karras, Kristina (Chris) Georgiev, Robert Karras, Jr. and Catherine Rios and Jake Rios. Other survivors include her sisters; Adriana Pearson and Helen Bouchard as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers; Adrian, John, and William Van Keulen and her sisters; Marie Cox, Anna Scaglione, Theresa Edwards and her identical twin Patricia Gold. Family and Friends will gather for a Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 215 Thomas More Dr. in Elgin, with Rev. Richard Rosinski, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 4-8 P.M. at Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.
