Irma Bertelsen Obituary

Bertelsen, Irma C. Mrs. Irma C. Bertelsen, 92, of Quincy, went to be with the Lord, on Thursday morning (March 3, 2011) at her home. Born July 23, 1918, in Monmouth, Illinois, Irma was the daughter of George F. and Mina M. Smiley Hanna. She married Orville J. Bertelsen onFebruary 14, 1939 in Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1997. A member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Barrington, Illinoisfor many years and most recently of Christ Lutheran Church of Quincy. Irma used her sewing skills to make baptismal napkins, altar cloths, and bookbags for mission projects. Irma was a graduate of Monmouth High School. She worked in medicalrecords and insurance departments at Monmouth Hospital and Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois where she retired in 1983. Survivors include her children, Ann Schaefer of Griggsville, IL, James (Barbara) Bertelsen of Coal Valley, IL, David Bertelsen of Tucson, AZ and Julia (Gunars) Zvaners of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, Julia Thomas, Deborah Wegs, Christine Arnold, Rebecca Cookson, Eric Bertelsen, Zinta Zvaners, and Juris Zvaners; twelve great grandchildren; and four great, great grandchildren. Mrs. Bertelsen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville; a son, Richard Bertelsen; and a brother, Frederick Hanna. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Quincy with Rev. Chris Hale officiating. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church, Quincy or Lutheran Church of the Atonement, Barrington, IL. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, 1435 State St. Quincy, IL 62301 is in charge of the arrangements.

I worked with Irma, she was one of the kindest,compasionate people i've ever known. My sympathy to her wonderful family.
