Phyllis Horton Obituary
Phyllis was born on February 6, 1942 in Rochester, MN, the eldest child of Arnold and Helen Nietz. She attended school in Rochester, and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1960. She graduated from Glenwood Hills Nursing School in January 1963, and thereafter worked as a nurse, mostly at Ambassador Nursing Home and North Clinic. On March 23, 1963, she married Charles Horton at St. Francis Church in Rochester, and together they raised their four wonderful children. Phyllis loved children, and after raising her own, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow from infants into teens and young adults. She enjoyed traveling, and was an excellent cook. She loved plants and gardening and passed that love on to her kids and grandkids. She also had a creative side, trying all kinds of arts and crafts, including painting, jewelry making, flower arranging, crocheting, diamond dots, and many others, and enjoyed all of them.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles Horton, and by their children, Deborah (Troy) Danielson, Michael (Stacey) Horton, Pamela English, and Thomas (Jaclyn) Horton; by her brothers, David (Arleen) Nietz and Bradley (Nikki) Nietz; by grandchildren, Zachary (Angelee) Danielson, Jordan Danielson, Tia English, Max English, Tori English, Cole Horton, Avery Horton, and Allison Horton; by sisters-in-law, Karen (Don) Schultz and Mary Horton; by brother-in-law, Dennis Horton; and by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Andrews Church in Elk River on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. with visitation one hour before Mass. Burial will be at St. Andrews Cemetery in Elk River.
The family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angels Care Center and Triniti Hospice Care for their compassionate and loving care for Phyllis the past several months.
Memorials to Guardian Angels are preferred in lieu of flowers.
