David Robert Davis, 59, of Canton, Georgia, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024.
David was born Jan. 11, 1965, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Robert Francis Anderson and Vicki D. Davis. David is preceded in death by his mother Vicki D. Davis; step-mother Nan Anderson, brothers Mitchell Davis, Michael Davis and Scott Foster, his adopted father Carl Delmar Davis and Terry Davis.
David attended Elkhart Memorial High School and Westbook High School. David held a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Saint Leo University, had a distinguished law enforcement career spanning over 25 years, and nine years of service to the military.
Throughout his law enforcement career, David served in various capacities, including his current role as a police corporal with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He served as a deputy sheriff, school resource officer and honor guard member with the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office in Georgia. His other service included acting chief of police, public safety site supervisor-captain at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, explosives detection canine handler with MSA Security Solutions, deputy sheriff in Pasco County, Florida, and Polk County, Florida, and police corporal/K-9 handler at Mulberry Police Department with his trusted K-9 partners, Cookie and Silvo.
In addition to his civilian accomplishments, David served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves, participating in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and as chaplain's assistant during his active-duty time. His military career also saw him serve as a photographer's mate in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his loving family who will remember him for his unwavering dedication, leadership and love for his country and community. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Melanie (Parrish) Davis; daughter Brooke L. Davis of Canton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Justin Walker and Jenna of Rapid City, South Dakota; daughter and son-in-law Heather Upchurch and Chris of Baden, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Josie and Oliver Upchurch, and Emma Walker; father Robert F. Anderson of Nappanee, Indiana; brother Phillip Davis; sister and brother-in-law Angie and Mike Cleveland; Deb Adams, Steve Foster, Theresa Foster and Shari Davis; aunts Trudy Davis, Susan Molnar, Alma Jean and Steve Makurat; and Uncle Ron Davis; along numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Logan Funeral Home on Thursday June 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Logan Funeral Home with internment at 2 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
