Douglas Michael "Mike" Sherman, 50, of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, surrounded by his family, following complications from surgery.
Mike was born on Dec. 25, 1973, in Goshen, to Doug and Connie (Rookstool) Sherman.
On Dec. 24, 2021, Mike proposed to Heather Hedman of South Bend, Indiana. They had been together for nearly a decade and have spent the last few years planning their future together.
He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Sherman of Elkhart; his parents of Millersburg, Indiana; one sister, Michelle (Albert) Mitcham of New Paris, Indiana; one brother, Adam (Stephanie) Sherman of Syracuse, Indiana; three nephews, Jami (Hannah) Mitcham of Goshen, Indiana, Cameron Mitcham of New Paris, and Kadyn Sherman of Syracuse; one niece, Hayleigh Sherman of Syracuse; step-grandmother, Sharon Rookstool of Goshen; and several aunts and uncles. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A 1993 graduate of Fairfield High School, Goshen, Indiana, Mike was a professional truck driver for 25 years, spending the last 12 years driving for Schupan & Sons Inc. in Elkhart, Indiana.
Mike, a picky eater, was often found making his own masterpiece on one of his three grills. He was very mechanically inclined and always had a project that he was working on, which meant at least one trip to Menards was going to be a must. As ornery and mischievous as Mike was, he loved his family and was always willing to help family and friends with their home projects. He enjoyed music and loved going to concerts with his family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Abundant Life Missionary Church, 2612 Dierdorff Road, Goshen.
