Forrest K. Howard, 27, of South Bend (formerly of Elkhart), died unexpectedly at 5:02 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021.
He was born on Nov. 13, 1993, in South Bend, to Jill (Scher) and Greg Howard. Surviving are his mother, Jill (Patrick) Mohan of Elkhart; two half-sisters, Shaye and Kacie Mohan; and his father, Greg. He was named after his surviving grandfather, Joseph Forrest Scher.
Forrest was a graduate of Elkhart Central High School where he was the class treasurer and a four-year member of the varsity soccer team. He spent several years playing travel soccer with F.C. Indiana and Kalamazoo Kingdom. He was previously employed at HIMCO and most recently as an assistant manager at the Goodwill Store on Cleveland Road in South Bend.
Forrest loved to be with family and friends spending time outdoors fishing, boating, planting flowers and vegetables, cooking, dancing, telling stories, playing games and making others laugh. He absolutely loved life. After suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2012 as a result of a car accident, he was unable to attend IU Bloomington.
The family will hold services at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Ronald McDonald House Michiana (610 N. Michigan St., Ste. 310 South Bend, IN 46601) or Hook Rehab (Physical Therapy & Rehab-Neuro Specialty, 8501 E. 56th St., Suite 140, Indianapolis, IN 46216).

Francie- Thanks for sharing the cousins Christmas picture; it helps.
We hope this picture helps others
Whenever we shared a meal, Forrest got into the experience. Thankfully, he was willing to share a bite or two as he made (almost) everything look good!

Forrest was full of ideas and energy! He delighted in making others smile and laugh. He cracked us up with his stories and jokes. For almost a year on Fridays he would drop a hint that Volcano’s breadsticks and sauce were for ready for pick-up; eventually it became part the routine. Forrest enjoyed eating meals with family and friends and was willing to try almost any new item set before him. He preferred homemade meals over eating out and became quite adept at grilling and creating healthy meals. He encouraged us to eat in more to save money and improve our health. Forrest was as competitive with board games and cards as he had been with sports. He’d figure out a strategy which resulted in a high win record - primarily over me. He would share gardening tips and other ways to manage household tasks more efficiently. Forrest was and will remain a cherished part of our lives.

Forrest was a light and a joy to be around — I love him with all my heart. His life changed drastically after his accident but he has always carried the same joy and spirit of laughter. Forrest taught my sisters and I how to play soccer and was like a brother to all of us. We will see eachother again.

Forrest was a fantastic co-worker to work with at Goodwill. He helped me through my depression at work, to the point that I am feeling a lot better for myself than I ever used to be. I will always joke around with him at work, pretending like I never did seen this movie or heard of this particular actor. Being the same age as Forrest, he was like a brother to me. Rest In Peace man. When my time comes around, I will be looking forward to doing bowling with you to fulfill my promise.
