Jacqueline L. Scherer, 83, of Elkhart passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. Jacqueline was born on Jan. 30, 1940, in Muncie, Indiana. She was the foster daughter of Addie and Ardythe Harshman, and her biological parents were Charles and Violet Childers. She married Edward A. Scherer on Feb. 14, 1959, in DeLeon Springs, Florida; he preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2005.
Jacqueline is survived by her children, Marsha (Alan) Liechty of Nappanee, Indiana, Dawn E,. Delaney of Elkhart, Indiana, Leanna K. (Robert) Ornatowski of Elkhart, Lee A. (Tammy) Scherer of Goshen, Indiana, and John D. (David) Scherer of Elkhart; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dewayne (Kathy) Childers of Muncie, Indiana; and her brother-in-law Ed Smith. Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Violet Childers; foster parents, Addie and Ardythe Harshman; husband Edward; their daughter, Melodie Scherer; her siblings, Carol Smith, Sheila Henman and Keith Childers; and her foster brother, Hubert Harshman.
Jacqueline graduated from Silver Lake High School. She loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed crocheting beautiful things, which they have treasured throughout the years. She always enjoyed playing bingo, especially when she won. She enjoyed dancing with her husband, while they listen to the King of Rock-n-Roll "Elvis." She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Nappanee.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Tuesday, June 6, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, with visitation one hour before funeral services. Burial will follow at Union South Cemetery in Nappanee, where Jacqueline will be laid to rest next to her husband. Memorial donations in memory of Jacqueline may be made to ADEC, 317 S.
