John W. Steckly, 91, of Elkhart entered eternal rest at his home on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, with family by his side. John was born on May 11, 1934, in Elkhart to the late Arnold Steckly Sr. and Georgia (Archer) Steckly and married Sue Anne on Aug. 22, 1959.
Sue survives along with their children, Marsha (Bill) Holdeman of Goshen, and Mike (Hayley Brinkman) Steckly of Durham, North Carolina; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Along with John's parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers.
John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, whose sense of loyalty and commitment carried through every part of his life. A faithful member of Osceola United Methodist Church and the Bristol American Legion, John valued community and service. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering on Notre Dame and the St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and golf. In his later years, he discovered a love for woodworking, crafting a unique and personal gift for his wife, children, and each of his grandchildren. Known as a "jack of all trades," John was always ready to lend a helping hand and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place with a time to visit with family and friends scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cruz Family Funeral Home, Osceola. A brief service to remember John will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, at noon, after an hour of visitation prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Center for Hospice or Bristol American Legion.
