Leo Vernon "Skip" Lane Jr., 65, of Niles, Michigan, passed to his rest Dec. 24, 2021, at his home after an illness.
He was born Jan. 29, 1956, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Leo Vernon and Ann M. (Welsh) Lane Sr., and has lived in the Michiana area for many years. After high school he had two years of college. He worked as a farmer and finally selling parts for Penski. He was a former volunteer fireman for Oslo Township Fire Department in Elkhart. He loved fishing and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds.
Skip was married Aug. 31, 1985, in Elkhart, to Tina Marie Wright and she survives with their children, Kristy Marie (Jose) Ruiz of Dowagiac, Lawrence Lane of Allegan, Michigan, Amanda Sue Lane of Niles, Virginia Eileen Lane of Niles and Michael Ray Lane of Covert, Michigan. There are 11 grandchildren, his mother Ann Baker of Benton, Iowa, and his two siblings, Beverly Ann (Rodney) Straight of Clearfield, Iowa, and Lawrence Vincent (Linzee) Lane of Benton, Iowa.
Family and friends may gather from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St., Edwardsburg, MI, where there will be a Rosary starting at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the funeral home, with visitation for one hour before the Mass. Officiating will be Father Kenneth Novak from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Kingsford Heights, Indiana. Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, Elkhart, Indiana, in the family lot.
The family requests that "masks must be worn."
