Nancy Norris Hill, 73, of Elkhart, passed away Dec. 16, 2014.
Nancy was a loving and caring woman of unwavering faith. She was a tremendous listener and demonstrated unconditional love and non-judgmental support to everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her. Her compassion, loyalty and authenticity made her special to so many people.
She met her "spiritual soulmate," James, and was married for 20 years before his death earlier in 2024. She cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed listening to music, crocheting, following her grandkids' activities and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. She was a constant cheerleader for her two children and all that they did.
She worked various jobs during her lifetime, but the positions that she enjoyed the most and brought her the most joy were the ones working with and helping people at the hospital or at Oaklawn. She truly had a servant's heart and was called to help others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Norris and Virginia Smith, and her beloved husband, James Hill.
She leaves behind her two children, Jacquie (Scott) Rost of Elkhart, Indiana, and Jeff (Lisa) Odiorne of Anderson, Indiana. She is also the proud grandma of Cameron, Lauren, Dylan, Jordan, Brooklynn, Quinn, Baylee and Colton. She is also the great-grandmother to Josiah. In addition, she leaves behind a step-father, Jerry Smith, eight siblings including Jackie Applegate, Ron Smith, Beth Beidler, Kim Weisenbarger, George Smith, Connie Norris, Dean (Bridget) Norris and Nikie (Bart) Hamilton, several cousins and nieces and nephews who truly loved her, as well as many devoted friends. Nancy also embraced children in her work as a foster parent. Lastly, she was "Grandma Nancy" to many others including Justice Dumas.
Nancy's Celebration of Life will be on Friday, Jan. 3, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart, Indiana, at 831 W Marion St, Elkhart, IN 46516. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at the church starting at 1 p.m.
