Phyllis May Fansler, 96, passed away on July 22, 2024, at Esther's House Hospice Care in Elkhart, Indiana.
She was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Elkhart, Indiana, the only daughter of Charles D. High and Dorothy Hartman, High, Helbling.
She graduated in 1945 from Jimtown High School. She married Robert H. Schumacher in 1946, and had four children, Edward L. Schumacher, Larry L. Schumacher, Robert H. Schumacher Jr. and Phillip T. Schumacher. She married Orville L. Fansler in 1973 and was the grandmother of five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and two sons.
She worked at Selmer company as secretary to the vice president. Her favorite passage of Scripture was Psalm 25 vs. 4-5: "Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in truth and teach me, for you are my God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 31, at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Rice Cemetery.
Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, has been entrusted with her care.

Phyllis shared the job of Librarian here at Hellenic with me until her health prohibited her doing so. I'll always remember in recent days her hesitancy to use her new, electric wheelchair for fear she'd run someone over.
